Our 2024 Have a Go Days – free multi-sport events - concluded earlier this month in Gloucester. More than 160 blind and partially sighted people aged 5 and above took part in one of our seven Have a Go Days across the country in Glasgow, Birmingham, Cambridge, Derby, Berkshire, Plymouth and Gloucester.

Guided by local coaches, we were able to give participants the opportunity to try various sports including archery, athletics, baseball, blind and partially sighted football, bowls, cricket, cycling, dance, goalball, judo, rowing, showdown and tennis.

Quotes from participants:

"It was really enlightening – in a good way! From start to finish, everyone was really nice, and it was cool to find out about sports I didn't know were available to me as a visually impaired person. I was nervous about going along but it was well worth it in the end." – Have a Go Day participant

Another parent of a participant said of their experience at the BBS Have a Go Day in Birmingham: "BBS were fantastic, and the event was well coordinated, fun and informative."

"My daughter has met new friends from the day who are same age and who also are partially sighted. And as a parent I was able to chat to other parents that have a partially sighted child. These two aspects are massively significant. Especially for the children who can now meet up and have someone who is 'just like them' which they don't have at school. It was also wonderful that siblings could be involved." – parent of a Have a Go Day participant
