I can't believe it's happening. I started my training last July, increasing my runs by 1-kilometre each week.
After trying Parkrun once, Stacey was hooked, and so her running journey began. At 66 years of age, the 2024 TCS London Marathon will be Stacey's first marathon. Stacey said: "I can't believe it's happening. I started my training last July, increasing my runs by 1-kilometre each week. I'm terrified, but the support from British Blind Sport (BBS) and the London Marathon team has been brilliant."
We asked Stacey, what has been the most challenging part of your marathon training? She said: "My legs aching all the time, and never having time to recover before the next training run is due."
Stacey added: "It's been great getting to know everyone through our WhatsApp group, so I'm looking forward to meeting 'Team BBS' on marathon day. And of course, crossing the finishing line, knowing that I've helped in a small way to raise money which will make a difference to people living with a visual impairment."
Stacey chose to run for BBS as she believes that everyone should have the opportunity to run, or to participate in whatever sport or physical activity they choose. She said: 'I've had the privilege of working alongside a number of inspiring visually impaired colleagues during my career in the Prison Service, including Lord Blunkett, former Home Secretary."
