Strategic Lead for Active and Healthy Communities

The key purpose of this role will be to implement approaches to increase physical activity by tackling inequalities. This will focus on underrepresented groups and places. The role will work in collaboration with stakeholders across the health sector (including the Integrated Care Board, Primary Care Networks, Public Health), local government, community organisations (for example Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire) and leisure providers to create sustainable change. We are looking for someone to advocate for the use of physical activity as a way of preventing ill health and for people to manage their health.

About Strategic Lead for Active and Healthy Communities

We are seeking a focused, engaging, organised Strategic Lead for Active and Healthy Communities to join our team. This role will be crucial in supporting the shaping of physical activity and sport in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Lead the Physical Activity movement to address health inequalities in physical activity, targeting underrepresented groups and communities such as low-income communities, ethnically diverse communities, people with disabilities, and older adults
  • Identify and address systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to physical activity opportunities and/or becoming physically active
  • Advocating the role of physical activity in preventing and managing a range of long-term health conditions
  • Align the Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire strategic approach with local and national health and wellbeing priorities, local needs, and organisational goals
