About South Yorkshire VI Tennis Club

South Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis Club (SYVITC) has been formed to increase opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to participate in physical activity, plus to grow a social network through tennis for those people who would otherwise

Our Club's hope is to continue to empower our blind and partially sighted community to get active and enjoy tennis, whether it is their first time on court or whether it is supporting those whose wish to play competitively and securing the pathway to fulfil their potential. The club currently supports 24 members, with 2 coaches and a team of willing volunteers.

To promote participation in the Club, the Club works closely with the city's blind charity, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind. The Club also engages with the wider network to share ideas and increase awareness.

SYVITC is aware that the vast majority of disabled people say that playing tennis has improved their sense of self confidence. With this in mind, the Club is conscious to focus on the social side of the sport to enhance positive wellbeing outcomes. SYVITC understands the power of sport to bring communities together and is particular aware of this where particular communities can become isolated dur to their disability.
