There are many disciplines involved in gymnastics, from artistic and acrobatic gymnastics, to trampolining and tumbling.
Benefits
- Improve flexibility

Involvement
Disability gymnastics is a discipline offered through British Gymnastics and provides details on where an individual with a visual impairment can get involved.
For more information visit the British Gymnastics website or email: disability@british-gymnastics.org
While gymnastics is not a Paralympic sport, there are many opportunities available for you to get involved in. This includes local events, and elite level competition.
Sight classifications are important to ensure fair and equal competition. Success at competitions should be defined by an athlete's skill and ability, not their impairment. The sight classifications should give all athletes the confidence that they are competing against others equally.

Adaptations and Equipment
Mainstream gymnastics can be easily adapted to include people who are blind or partially sighted. Depending on your level of sight, adaptations may include counting the number of steps for a vault run or memorising the distance of the beam from end to end.
In terms of clothing, compression sportswear, leggings or footless tights are ideal for beginners.
Gymnastics clubs will provide the equipment.
