British Blind Sport is excited to announce that the first ever National Young Leader Camp will take place from the 15th to the 18th April 2019.
Bouldering | Bowling | Cricket | Goalball | Team-building | and more!
The National Young Leader Camp 2019 has been specifically designed to give young people living with a visual impairment the opportunity to have fun, play sports and make new friends, whilst developing key leadership and employability skills through a qualification accredited by Sports Leaders UK. In addition to all of this, all campers will be supported to lead a sports session of their choice, demonstrating their newly developed skills.
The residential camp, which will take place at the Royal National College for the Blind, Hereford, is FREE to 14 to 16 year olds* living with a visual impairment in England. In addition to all activities and the sports leadership qualification, included in this free event is 3 nights’ accommodation at the Royal National College for the Blind and all meals for the duration of the camp. All young leaders will be supervised by qualified and DBS certified staff and instructors to ensure everybody’s safety and welfare throughout the camp.
*please note applications outside the age range of 14 to 16 may still be accepted. If you are aged 13 or younger or 17 or older and interested in coming, please contact Lijana on the details found below.
All participants at the BBS National Young Leader Camp 2019 will complete a nationally recognised and Sports Leaders UK accredited level 1 course which introduces volunteering within sport and activity. All Young Leaders will also get the opportunity to further their qualification by joining the See My Voice project to complete the course at level 2. Participants will not be required to sign up to the See My Voice project to attend the camp.
This residential camp has been developed as part of the See My Voice project which aims to develop young (11-20) visually impaired people through a volunteering, mentoring and leadership programme. The See My Voice project supports Young Leaders to develop life skills and create relationships that will inevitably increase their confidence and enhance their employability prospects. The See My Voice project is funded by Sport England and the #iwill fund with the aim of linking over 100 Young Leaders into meaningful sports volunteering roles. The project will then provide a platform for them to share their opinions and experiences with sports organisations to increase the number and quality of opportunities for visually impaired people to lead active lifestyles.
