Mike McDonald

On marathon day I'm looking forward to the London crowds and soaking up the atmosphere.

Mike has been running for 50 years and the 2024 TCS London Marathon will be Mike's 49th marathon.

Every marathon journey has its ups and downs, we asked Mike, what has been the most challenging part of marathon training? He said: "Rehabbing from surgery in the middle of training has been tough."

On marathon day Mike is looking forward to the London crowds and soaking up the atmosphere. To make his run even morefun, Mike will be running in a full-size, homemade motorbike costume, hoping to set a new Guinness World Record. He said: "I have no clue if I'll be able to take ten steps without tripping over in it, but I'll give it a go!"

Mike chose to run for British Blind Sport (BBS) to help children and adults with a visual impairment lead more active lives. He said: "My cousins lost their sight when they were young due to a side-effect of diabetes. Sadly, due to complications they passed-away one-by-one when young adults."

Mike added: "Two thirds of blind and partially sighted people want to participate in sport and physical activity but aren't able to. So, I, and my six BBS team-mates are doing our little bit to help change this."
