Running has absolutely transformed Marly's life. It has given him back his confidence and independence, and his strength and balance have improved enormously.
Marly who is visually impaired had not run for 20 years; Vicki had been running casually for several years but had never guided a visually impaired runner. 18 months ago, Marly and Vicki were introduced to each other through Colin Johnson of VI Runners Bristol, where they have learnt to run together. Starting with 5-kilometre runs, 18 months later they are set to run the 2024 TCS London Marathon.
Although Marly and Vicki have kept each other motivated, at times, their marathon training has been tough. They said: "The long runs have been the most challenging, they are exhausting and certainly take a few days to recover from."
We asked Marly and Vicky, what are you most looking forward to on marathon day? They said: "We are really looking forward to experiencing the carnival atmosphere and simply crossing the iconic London Marathon finish line!"
Marly and Vicki are running for British Blind Sport because they have both experienced how life changing sport and physical activity can be.
Vicki added: "Running has absolutely transformed Marly's life. It has given him back his confidence and independence, and his strength and balance have improved enormously. As we all know exercise is wonderful for our all-round physical and mental health and this is the heart of the BBS mission."
