Help BBS’s Christmas Stars unite people with sight loss through sport!

The annual Christmas Appeal for British Blind Sport will launch on Tuesday 30th November and runs until 31st December, and is supported by iPro Sports and BBS Christmas Champions, who have pledged to a funding pot where every £1 will be matched, doubling each donation, up to a total value of £2,500. Christmas Stars Sibel, 9, and John, 20, are sharing their experiences as part of the campaign to help raise awareness of the charity and encourage the two million people living with sight loss in the UK to be more active and enjoy the mental and physical benefits that sport can provide.

British Blind Sport is the only national sports charity that represents blind and partially sighted children and adults in sport and recreational activities. By donating to the Christmas Appeal, you will be assisting in the funding of resources that will allow people with sight loss to have the same access and enjoyment of sport as sighted people. Thanks to funds raised through last year's Christmas appeal, British Blind Sport was able to continue operating throughout the pandemic, ensuring that blind and partially sighted people in the UK had the opportunity to get active and improve their mental and physical health.

One Active at Home participant said, "In May I went through a period of poor mental health which I know would have been so much worse if I didn't have BBS' fitness classes."

A parent of a child who benefits from British Blind Sport's First Steps programme said, "Lockdown was incredibly hard for our family. BBS gave our daughter the confidence and the tools to follow a series of exercises that the whole family could join in with."

BBS Fundraising Manager, Lucy Beattie-Cooper said, “2020 was a year unlike any other. Thanks to donations from supporters, British Blind Sport was able to continue to provide sporting opportunities to blind and partially sighted people to help them get fit, gain confidence, improve their self-esteem and make new friends. This year's stars hope to inspire others to get active and raise awareness for the charity. There are plenty of ways that you can support us, and as a small charity, you'll know that your contribution is helping to make a visible difference through sport."

British Blind Sport know that sport serves as a powerful springboard towards greater opportunities, helping people to lead more active and independent lives, which is essential for improved physical health, happiness and wellbeing. Please help to support British Blind Sport's Christmas Stars by making a donation. All donations, no matter how small can help to make sport accessible. With your help, British Blind Sport can continue to support people with sight loss to be active in 2022.
