COVID-19 pandemic: Help people with sight loss get active at home
Why we need your help
Help people with sight loss get active at home!
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, British Blind Sport (BBS) is taking immediate action to support people with sight loss to be active at home and maintain good health and wellbeing throughout this challenging period.
People with sight loss are more likely to experience loneliness and isolation at the best of times. With current social distancing measures and self-isolation for those who are vulnerable or older, people with sight loss need your support now more than ever before.
BBS is changing the way it delivers services to ensure that we can reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. We are working to launch a range of audio-guided physical activities from gentle meditation and stretching exercises to high energy cardio and dance workouts for all levels from beginner to advanced. These audio-described videos will reach people with sight loss in their own homes and encourage them to join #TribeBBS and take part in daily activity that will give a big boost to their physical and mental wellbeing. We are promoting this new service through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, RNIB Connect Radio, the BBS website and sight loss and disability sport organisations.
BBS is really excited about this new project as it will also create an online community for people with sight loss to feel a part of which is needed so much right now. We hope that it will help to reduce feelings of isolation as people take part in activity together through our live workouts and share their experiences of the workout library that can be accessed at any time.
Looking ahead to the future, this online service will remain part of our offering to people with sight loss and will allow us to help more people with sight loss to be active than ever before!
Thank you so much for supporting BBS and people with sight loss.
