Our brand-new exhibition, 'British Blind Sport at 50', will be displayed at Warwick's Market Hall Museum, in partnership with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) from Friday 5th September to Saturday 14th March 2026.
At the museum, visitors will be able to enjoy the history of BBS and learn about local blind and partially sighted athletes including Laura Turner, a member of the BBS team and torchbearer for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Mike Brace CBE, one of the first visually impaired Nordic skiers to represent ParalympicsGB, and Melanie Barratt, the first blind woman to swim the English Channel.
Alongside personal stories, visitors can experience sensory installations, film extracts and audio description designed to bring the exhibition to life.
Our CEO, Alaina MacGregor, said:
"We're incredibly proud to launch our 'British Blind Sport at 50' exhibition at Market Hall Museum, Warwick, in partnership with the NPHT. This landmark moment is more than a celebration of our history – it's a powerful tribute to the resilience and achievements of blind and partially sighted athletes across the UK. As we reflect on five decades of progress, this exhibition invites everyone to be part of our journey and to be inspired by the stories that continue to shape our future."
To mark the opening of the exhibition, the BBS and NPHT teams will host an event on Saturday 13th September between 10am-1pm at Market Hall Museum where visitors will have the opportunity to meet the teams, try out some sports and have the rare opportunity to handle Paralympic objects including torches, medals and mascots, as well as blind and partially sighted sporting equipment.
Both the exhibition and the launch event are free to attend. Market Hall Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
