BBS to Speak at The UK’s No.1 Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Summit for Sport

British Blind Sport to Speak at The UK’s No.1 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Summit for Sport.

The Include Summit, the UK's largest conference on equality, diversity and inclusion in sport, will be held on the 8th and 9th of March 2022 in Birmingham. The summit will provide over 1000 attendees with the opportunity to hear from leading voices across the sector attend expert workshops and connect with others who are passionate about driving change.

Alaina MacGregor, Chief Executive Officer of British Blind Sport, will speak at the summit on how to assist disabled people in overcoming barriers to participation in sport and physical activity. Alaina began her involvement in disability sport as a volunteer advisor for British Blind Sport in 2010, but took over as Chief Executive Officer when the position became available in early 2011. She is passionate about making a visible difference through sport, and the charity has grown year after year under her leadership.

Alaina said, "Since our inception in 1975, British Blind Sport has enabled over 100,000 blind and partially sighted people to experience and participate in sport and recreational activities. I am honoured to be speaking at the Include Summit alongside key partners, experts and Paralympians to raise awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities face when wanting to participate in sport and physical activities. I look forward to being a member of the discussion panel where we can address how we can build a more inclusive society where everyone has equal access, which is essential for improved physical health, happiness and wellbeing."

Workshops for young people aged 15 to 25 will also be held at the Include Summit, led by young leaders from various sports organisations. Two members of British Blind Sport's Youth Advisory Panel have been invited to speak. Yusuf Huraira, 22, and Rainbow Mbuangi, 19, are passionate advocates for blind and partially sighted young people and act as ambassadors for British Blind Sport. They work with the charity to develop various projects and amplify the voices of young people in sport.

Yusuf said, "I am thrilled to be a part of the Include Summit. I'll be speaking about why blind and partially sighted people are important in organisations at the Putting People First event. I'll also talk about my experiences working with organisations and the benefits they've gained by putting people first."

The event organisers are providing free tickets to the summit for community leaders and young people aged 15 to 25 in recognition of including young people. If you are interested in bringing young people to the event, please contact Jack@includesummit.com.
