Applications are open for the final British Blind sport National Young Leader Camp of the See My Voice project!

British Blind Sport are pleased to announce the return of their National Young Leader Camp for the last time during the current phase of the See My Voice project! Image shows a group of young people and volunteers wearing Young Leader t-shirts, all celebrating with their hands in the air!

See My Voice is a British Blind Sport project for 10-20 year olds, focusing on volunteering and leadership in sport and physical activity. It gives young people with sight loss the chance to have their voices heard and share personal experiences of volunteering in the sport and physical activity sector in order to change the game and make their own visible difference.

The National Young Leader Camp gives Young Leaders the opportunity to come together on a residential camp, gain nationally recognised qualifications, step out of their comfort zone, influence others, participate in a variety of sports and, most importantly, have fun!

The camp will run from Monday 6th April – Thursday 9th April at The Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford.

This time, there are spaces for both Returners (those who have had previous involvement with See My Voice development days or camps) and Newbies (those who haven't experienced it yet but want to give it a try!).

A parent of a Young Leader said, “Our son absolutely loved it. He thoroughly enjoyed being with other VI children his age for the first time ever. He was already saying that if he had another chance he would do it again - even as a helper. He even challenged himself to overcome some fears e.g. being able to ride a bike again since his sight loss - so thank you. He was buzzing about the cricket and liking the fact he may have converted some and advising them which clubs they should go to. The best thing of all was making friends from his own age group.”

As well as the residential camp, Young Leaders will be holding a See My Voice Conference, whereby they and hosts will share their volunteer orientated learning with leaders in the sporting industry and VI community. By offering their support to understand more about how organisations can diversify their workforce and activities to include “people like me”, they hope to have a longer lasting and further reaching impact. The conference will consist of workshops and sports activities as well as a chance to network with the Young Leaders.
